Growing up on one of the last remaining family farms in North Royalton, Steve Mattes, Jr. learned to enjoy working outdoors from an early age. From growing hay to tending livestock, working in the fields, and maintaining the equipment, his days were filled with appreciation for outdoor life. Steve began working for a local landscaping company at fourteen years of age, and while in high school attended the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center where he studied horticulture. In 1996 while still a senior at Royalton High School, Steve founded Mattes Landscaping which he runs with the help of his father, Steve Mattes, Sr. We met with Steve recently, and listened as he described his company's services and offerings;

Mattes Landscaping is a full-service landscaping firm serving residential and commercial customers located throughout southern Cuyahoga County. In addition to landscape design and installation, we provide a complete selection of fertilization and maintenance services. We employ three crews who mow over eight million square feet of grass each week, and another crew dedicated to installing new landscapes. We sell hay and straw, and throughout the winter we also provide snow removal services for local homeowners and businesses.

We install landscapes for several area developers and builders, and we work from Brecksville, Broadview Heights, and North Royalton to Richfield, Strongsville, Berea, and Olmsted Falls. We're presently installing the landscapes for Kensington Homes' Reserve of Pine Lakes in Strongsville off W. 130th and Albion Road, and for Thomas Holding Company's Trail Head Village in Berea.
