After graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in forest management, Bruce Grayson entered the landscaping industry by working for a local tree company. In his spare time, Bruce started to add new varieties of apple trees and other plant material to the orchard originally planted by his grandfather in the late 1950s. As his reputation began to grow, Bruce left the tree company and with his wife Ellen founded Royalton Farms in 1988. We met with Bruce recently, and listened as he described Royalton Farms' products and services;

Royalton Farms is a combination orchard, nursery, and landscape construction firm. We do landscape construction and installation for new homes, renovation of older properties, grading work, irrigation, retaining walls, patios, lawn installations, and snow plowing in the winter. We have several thousand plants in our nursery, as well as mulch, topsoil, and our own compost available for deliver. Our orchard boasts thirteen varieties of apples, and we harvest between 40-50,000 pounds of apples per season. We have the only cider press in Cuyahoga County, and make 1,500 to 2,000 gallons of cider each year which is sold through our retail market in September and October.

Royalton Farms has earned a reputation as "backyard specialists". Many times, homeowners tend to focus on their front yards, with no or little attention paid to their backyard landscaping. These backyards are a clean slate, waiting to be developed into havens of relaxation and entertainment for the entire family. After taking into consideration the family's goals, children, and pets, I strive to integrate all these factors into a cohesive design that will reward the family with many hours of enjoyment.

As a small family-owned and operated company, my wife Ellen and I handle the management chores and are assisted by two to five employees depending on the season. I do all my own design work and take pride in creating landscapes earmarked by a full, lush appearance constructed primarily from shrubs, trees, and plant material from our own nursery.

Everything we produce in our orchard and nursery is for sale, and deliveries are available. As I'm most commonly out on a job site during the day, I recommend that customers call in the early morning or evening to make sure we have someone available to provide assistance when you stop by.
